To kick start our ‘Day in the Life’ blog series, we caught up with Steph Laverick, one of our Senior BookingsGuru coordinators, to find out what a typical day in her role involves, what she most enjoys about being a Guru and how she helps match hirers with one of our partner schools. Read on to find out her answers.
What does a typical day involve?
A typical day, Monday-Friday is busy, but I love it. At the start of the week, I always begin by assigning email enquiries for the schools I manage to myself so I can see what my workload is like, prioritise any urgent enquiries or issues and plan my responses out for the remainder of the week.
We receive a target performance tracker for each of our schools so we can see the revenue each of our schools are receiving on a weekly/monthly basis. This means I can see clearly where there are revenue dips and capacity to boost bookings, which I can be mindful of when handling enquiries or liaising with current hirers, to see if they would like to set reoccurring bookings or expand their sessions.
What do you enjoy most about being a Guru?
I love my job; every day is different. All hirers are looking for similar space but at different times and dates, venues and space capacity. The BookingsGuru team are friendly and supportive so if we cannot meet the initial request from a hirer due to a school being fully booked, we work together to find a solution that meets their needs.
I also love the flexibility of hybrid working – because we use a tracking system for incoming enquiries, and responses, I can work from home as if I was at the office and then have the benefit of being able to come into the office for meetings and to collaborate with my team and other departments a couple of days a week.
The BookingsGuru team use our in-house software BookingsPlus for managing the lettings administration for our partner schools – what’s your top feature in the system that makes your job easier?
I love the ‘reminders’ feature in BookingsPlus. When we receive a hirers documentation, we can set a reminder for when they are due to expire, ensuring that we chase them up a week prior so that we are fully H&S compliant and to ensure a seamless continuation of their bookings.
If you could join another team or take on another person’s role in community, what would it be and why?
This is a hard one as I have worked in bookings/events for over 18 years so love being part of the Guru team at Kajima Community. If I had the chance, I would be interested in working in accounts or marketing, helping the school bookings at each school grow and advertising the spaces we have on offer to the local community.
