Julie Moorhouse, our Sales and Marketing Manager in the North, discusses her recent fundraising efforts in aid of St Oswald’s Hospice.
COVID-19 has had a significant impact for charity fundraising events in the UK, with activities of all scales and sizes postponed or cancelled during lockdown. As travel restrictions came into effect, my family and I were staying together at my parents’ home in the Lake District, from where we decided to complete the 2.6 challenge — a fundraising initiative that was established to provide much-needed support to charities during this period.
We decided to get involved in the 2.6 challenge as it was an opportunity for us all to support a charity that is very close to our hearts, St Oswald’s Hospice, who have continued their important bereavement work for families even during lockdown.
The great thing about the 2.6 challenge is that everyone could join in with whatever activity they wanted, as long as it involved the numbers 2.6 or 26. We all chose challenges and supported each other to complete them, including a 26 minute Danceathon by youngest member of the family, Ava, aged 6 and a 2.6 mile run by Jack, aged 8.
Other challenges we’ve undertaken included 26 lengths up and down the driveway (a very steep 2.6 miles!) that I completed, a 2.6 hour hike, completed by my parents (which turned out to be a 10 mile and 4 hours long mountaineering expedition!), a CrossFit workout by my Husband and Brother-in-Law involving 4 different 26 rep exercises completed as many times as possible in 26 minutes and even a 2 hour walk completed by another family member isolating alone as far away as Middlesbrough!
With so many members of our family in one place, this was the perfect opportunity to do something together that helped make a difference during these strange times. The 2.6 challenge fit the bill perfectly as it was something that all members of the family could participate in, regardless of age or ability, while also raising money for such an important cause.
Taking part really boosted everyone’s mood, especially when thinking of the celebratory drinks at the end! We are so pleased with our efforts and family and friends have truly got behind us, with our Just Giving page so far raising over £980.
